Worksop 8 - 24 Deeping St James
A much improved Worksop side came up short against a strong, established Midlands 3 Team. A few key players returned to travel to Stamford and the team’s hopes were high.
From the kick off it was the visitors that started the strongest and after a period of concerted pressure, returning Captain Kevin McGuire scored an early try. A line out deep in Deepings half saw a catch and drive move result in a series of rolling mauls which the captain duly finished off. Russell Billam narrowly missed the conversion.

Worksop 26 - 46 Notts Moderns
Worksop started well against a strong moderns team but early pressure by the forwards came to nothing when moderns picked up a loose ball to score a converted try. This spurred Worksop on when a fine move by the backs saw Mike Barnett score but this was not converted. With half time approaching, Worksop lost concentration and Moderns scored two quick tries. Half time 5-19.
The home side started the second half like the first but with some strange decisions by the referee, Moderns scorded two more breakaway tries which left Worksop wanting a small helping hand that was answered by the arrival of Andy Waddell and Dan Bowskill. With a more experienced back line, Worksop went on the offensive which was rewarded when Bowskill went over for a fine try.

Amber Valley 19 - 7 Worksop
The start of a new league season got underway and it did not go as planned. Having had to make late changes to the team, Worksop travelled away to Amber Valley - a team they had not played against for quite a few seasons. Liam Beard taking the captain's arm band for this game lost the toss and his opposite captain chose to have the sun behind them.
The game started with a good kick-off and it was Worksop who put the early pressure on. Unfortunately handling errors gave the hosts easy ball to clear their lines. After 5 minutes, the home team kicked in to gear and on their first visit into Worksop’s 22 forced more errors. A line out not straight gave them a scrum 5 yards out and they used their bigger pack to their advantage with their scrumhalf scoring a converted try.

Worksop 39 - 22 Amber Valley
This was Worksop 2nd’s first home match of the season and they were hoping for a good turn out of players, unfortunately this was not the case and at one stage only had eleven players available. But with Jamie Waddell, Matt Hardy and Dan Bowskill helping out we could start the game with fourteen players. Things got better when Amber Valley turned up with thirteen players.
So with neither side managing a full team there were going to be an open game. Worksop started the better with the forewords dominating the game and some good ball for the backs to run with, but it was Amber Valley who got on the score sheet first with a break away try which they converted. Worksop reply was quick and a good foreword drive and some good handling in the backs saw Matt Hardy crash over the line for the first try.
