Notts Junior Cup – Final
Worksop 10 - 14 Nottinghamians
It was a case of one game too far for Worksop on Sunday as they lost only their 3rd game of the season.
After a slow start Worksop started to gain the upper hand, but when Worksop dropped the ball in their own half the Nottingham winger gathered the loose ball to score the opening try. Despite this set back Worksop continued to have the better of the half. Unfortunately they couldn’t find a way through the Nottinghamians defence. With the half time score at 7-0 Worksop knew they had to score early which they did, when a high ball bounced kindly for the on rushing M Nunn who collected and scored. Unfortunately Waddell could not add the extra 2 points.
Worksop now had their tails up and attacked at every opportunity. D Bowskill, who collected the ball on the half way line and sliced through Nottinghamians defence to score in the corner, scored the next try of the game. Again the conversion was missed.
Worksop were now throwing everything at their opponents to get the next score, but it was the Notts team who scored next with their only meaningful attack of the half. With 4 points the difference and with 10 minutes remaining Worksop camped themselves in their opponents 22, but the Notts teams’ defence held firm thwarting all of Worksop’s attacks. In the end it was a case of one game too far, as Nottinghamians held on for the win.
